This week, EIOPA began detailed consultation on draft Guidelines for Solvency II, and the Queen's Speech introduced collective pensions similar to those in Holland. Airmic and Axco announced Insight Risk Manager to aid compliance globally, and Standard & Poor's queried the need for G-SIls.
Fitch reviewed American insurers' presence in Asian markets, and A.M. Best analysed US p & c insurer's share prices in the first quarter. J.D. Power's latest survey reported on generational buying patterns in the US auto insurance market. The MGAA reported that MGAs key focus areas going forward are growth, new products, and a wider use of technology, whilst the Met Office said that the UK could expect more extreme summer rain on a regular basis by 2100. Aon Benfield published its global Catastrophe ReCap Report for May.
On the M&A front, Japanese insurer Dai-ichi Life moved for Protective Life, the 20th largest US life insurer, and Aspen turned down another offer from Endurance Specialty. Both Hub International and Marsh Mac Agency acquired again in the US. ING officially announced it's IPO intention for its insurance business next month, Catlin Middle East was established in Dubai, and Hong Kong-based Peak Re is to move into life and health sectors and appointed senior management. Swiss Re made important adjustments to its Sustainable Risk Framework.
Xchanging announced that its E-Placing Platform had successfully facilitated its first electronic risk placement, and also made two global management appointments. SSP launched a new customer behavioural analytics solution and FC Business Intelligence produced a white paper on fraud analytics linked to a conference next October. American Family joined Agnik's Cloud-based Connective Car platform, and RMS(one) Developer Network began building apps. Transactor unveiled a new version of its core offering.
The Geneva Association appointed a new Secretary General/Managing Director.
Insurance Europe is to hold its 6th Annual Conference in Malta on 12th June, and the International Insurance Society has its 50th Annual Seminar in London on 22nd/25th June which will incorporate the UN Financial & Private Sector Disaster Resilience Global Summit.
