4 bids possible for RBS Aviation
Various reports are circulating as to who is bidding for the RBS Aviation business. One usually reliable source suggests that China Development Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Wells Fargo are amongst the bidders. Another source suggests that Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Macquarie are to submit a joint bid. The only thing surprising about the latter report is that Macquarie has just offloaded a substantial portfolio of Aviation leases to MUFG, understood to be for capital ratio building reasons so it would seem surprising that they should dive back in to expanding in this area unless they are acting purely in some service type role within the partnership.
The sale will be one of the larger disposals by a bank in recent times with RBS hoping to raise more than £4bn (€4.7bn $6.3bn ¥488bn Y39.7bn) from the sale. The business consists of around 250 aircraft leases.
